• Tofield Grief and Bereavement Workshop

    Colleen Lindholm | November 8, 2015

TOFIELD, AB –  We all face loss, eventually. And often we – along with our friends, co-workers, and family members are not sure what supports are available.

The Camrose Primary Care Network (PCN) is pleased to offer a one day Grief and Bereavement workshop on Saturday, November 21st, which will explain the differences between bereavement, grief and mourning.

This workshop is for people who are coping with grief and loss, as well as for people interested in becoming “grief helpers” – co-workers, family members or even physicians and health care professionals supporting people going through a loss.

Co-facilitated by Donna Lynne Erickson (Certified Grief Trainer) and Colette Howery (Registered Nurse with a Certificate in Grief Support) participants will learn:
    •    How to be a companion/grief helper to someone who has experienced a loss.
    •    The importance of integrating loss into our own lives first.
    •    That everyone’s grief journey is unique & that we all grieve differently.
    •    How to recognize signs of complicated grief.
    •    How to access appropriate community resources.

“PCN physicians and staff have recognized there is an opportunity in our communities to offer a workshop for individuals facing loss in their lives, “states Stacey Strilchuk, Camrose PCN Executive Director.“ We are fortunate to have Colette and Donna Lynne to facilitate this workshop, and are so pleased to be able to collaborate with them in a way that is meaningful and relevant to people facing bereavement and grief.”

This free workshop, being held at the Tofield Golden Club (Seniors’ Drop In Centre) 5004 - 54 Avenue, will run from 10 am to 4:00 pm and includes lunch.  Costs for the event are being offset by the Tofield and Area Health Services Foundation.

"The PCN is very appreciative of Tofield and Area Health Services Foundation in offering to support this workshop in Tofield," states Strilchuk.  “They see the value in having this type of service available and we are pleased to work with them moving this forward for the community members in Tofield, Ryley and Beaver County. We want to thank them for sponsoring the lunch and room rental for this event."
