• Caring for your Diabetes Workshop: Nov 26th

    Colleen Lindholm | November 8, 2013

If you are living with Diabetes, mark your calendar for November 26th. In recognition of November being Diabetes Awareness Month, The Camrose Primary Care Network (PCN) is pleased to offer a free Caring for your Diabetes session to provide information and guidance to people living with diabetes. Everyone is welcome even if you have not had a prior referral to the Camrose PCN.

People who have been diagnosed with diabetes, often take insulin as an important part of their care plan.  While taking insulin may be hard to understand, PCN Pharmacist, Phamie Gotaas will provide useful information to help you understand how proper insulin injection technique can reduce pain of an injection and improve sugar control. If you are not yet on insulin and wish to gain a better understanding of what it is all about, you can also come out for this interactive learning experience. Patients can have a hands on experience and can touch and feel the insulin injection pens at this seminar.

Another common complication of diabetes can include foot problems. If these are not looked after or prevented they can lead to serious complications such as ulcers which heal poorly or amputations. Registered Nurse Michelle Bowman will be providing information about how diabetes affects your feet, how to prevent and manage diabetic foot complications and what you can do to keep your feet healthy.

“The PCN is pleased to provide current and credible information on diabetes management”, states Stacey Strilchuk, Camrose PCN Executive Director. “The Camrose PCN physicians recognize the importance of providing information in the community in a way that is meaningful and relevant to individuals in their journey towards health and well-being.”

Two sessions will be available for people to choose from to attend on November 26th. There will be a morning session from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. as well an evening session from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. While the sessions are free, the PCN would like people to register in advance, and can do so by calling 780-608-4927 or email info@camrosepcn.com.
