• Gone Too Soon - Handbook for Coping with Loss due to Substance Abuse

    The Addiction Prevention and Mental Health Promotion and Illness Prevention teams of AHS Provincial Addiction and Mental Health are pleased to announce the release of the “Gone Too Soon:  Navigating Grief and Loss as a Result of Substance Use” handbook, an Alberta adaptation of the BC Centre on Substance Use’s (BCCSU) original resource. 

    This online, downloadable handbook is available here. 

    The handbook provides practical information for individuals and families who have experienced the death of a loved one due to substance use, and includes Alberta-specific protocols and resources.  Healthcare and community service providers can also download and print this online resource.  Key themes include:  Grief and loss, substance-related stigma, self-care, social connection, counselling support, and practical considerations following the loss.
